I recently won the lottery. No, not really. I did, however, win something equally as valuable to me. I entered a goodreads giveaway for a book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Writers. I didn’t even realize I had won the book until it was in my hands straight out of the mailbox. Then I panicked. Why did I even enter that giveaway? I’m not a writer. I read. So I avoided it. I put it on my bookshelf and tried to forget about it. Unfortunately I’m very honest by nature and my guilty conscience kept nagging me about the book I had decided not to read. I can’t tell you how glad I am that I pulled it off the shelf.
I imagine that lots of people have already had their own encounter with a Chicken Soup for the Soul, whether it was the original or one of the many variants. I imagine that lots of people haven’t cracked the spine of one of these books. I was one of those latter people and I had no idea what kind of blessings I was being set up to receive.
This book gave me the inspiration to keep going. It was written for writers, but it can be applied to so much more. (If you have the imagination to replace the hardships of writing with similar hardships.) Honestly, I didn’t know if I wanted to carry on writing on this blog. Honestly, who can say that a year from now I decide to continue? But right now I know that I want to. I want to write. I want to tell stories that people love and one day I hope I’ll have the chance to inspire another aspiring writer.
I would now like to thank the wonderful author (that is featured in Chicken Soup) for sending me my copy. For those of you curious enough his name is Sebastian Cole and you can find out more information on his book at http://sebastiancoleauthor.com/.
